A new center launches in Harrisburg that focuses on building businesses

Patrons who walk into Strawberry Square in Harrisburg are able to shop, eat, and work out, now they’ll have a space that can help turn their concepts into reality.The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a program designed to develop and grow new businesses.”I’m a big believer that if you get a bunch of creative, intelligent people, businesses can be founded that can change the world,” Dave Segal, founder of Naqi Logix, said.Harrisburg University’s Center for Innovation offers assistance that early-stage companies need, like access to facilities and staff, help to craft a social media presence, and exposure to new and existing companies.”We have corporate companies like Hershey coming in and doing innovation projects with us, and all of these founders can see what Hershey is doing for the next product,” Jay Jayamohan, executive director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship said.To be selected for the program, entrepreneurs must apply new approaches to existing markets, demonstrate that their company has growth potential, and develop ideas for new products.”Whether it’s A.I. or ChatGPT, how does that play in their company, all those things. You know you, can come here and create prototypes to start new products and services,” Jayamohan said.There are currently 11 start-up founders in the program, 80% of them are people of color and 50% are women.
