Major WOW! internet outage hits metro Detroit

Customers of WOW! Internet in metro Detroit and beyond endured a couple of hours of significant service outages around lunch time Tuesday.

The website Down Detector, which tracks internet outages, shows that just after 12:30 p.m. outages spiked for the Denver, Colo.-based provider, with nearly 6,000 customers in the Detroit area reporting outages.

That number had dropped to less than 100 customers by about 2:30 p.m., according to Down Detector.

“Our team is investigating a global outage that is impacting customers across WOW! markets,, and our customer care centers,” the company tweeted around 1 p.m. “We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

The outage appeared widespread around much of the eastern United States, according to NetBlocks, which tracks internet availability.
