In an exceptional example of umpiring, a man from Maharashtra has shown some quirky ways of taking a call in a local cricket tournament in Pandharpur, Maharashtra. The umpire, identified as Deepak Naiknavare, used his legs to signal a wide delivery and the video of it has gone viral on the internet. So much so that former England cricketer Michael Vaughan also shared the video on his official Twitter profile.
The clip shows Deepak umpiring at a match that was being held under the Pandharpur Premier League. After the bowler bowls at the batsman, Deepak can be seen signalling a wide. However, his unique way has left many giggling. Deepak didn’t signal the wide in a normal hand gesture. Instead, he did a handstand and showed the wide with a clean leg split. Incredible, right?
Michael Vaughan thought so too! He shared the video with the caption, “Surely we need to see this chap join the ICC Elite panel”.
