ROCKFORD (WREX) — Thousands of people lost their cable and internet over the New Year’s weekend.
A Comcast spokesperson confirmed to WREX that bullet strikes caused the outages around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 1st.
The outage impacted downtown Rockford and Freeport according to the spokesperson.
Officials say most outages were restored Sunday night with the reaming customers getting services back on Monday morning.
Jack Seagul with Comcast provided the following statement:
“The outage was caused by bullets that pierced our network lines in two Rockford locations on Saturday. We can’t thank our crews enough for working tirelessly over the holiday weekend to identify and locate the cause and repair and restore service as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience but want our customers and the affected communities to be aware of the cause of the outage.”
